Transforming Communities - A Movement to Racial Justice 2021: AI Literacy is a Civil Rights Issue

Recognizing that AI is statistics, with all the flaws and inconsistencies inherent to statistical processes that we intuitively understand, empowers us to ask ourselves and others - is AI the right tool for these life and death decisions? Should we really be relying on lines and shading to decide who lives and dies, who is jailed and who goes free, who gets a job and who's destitute, and so on?

It also empowers us to ask more questions about who should ultimately be involved in the key decision-making processes around AI. We all have a role to play in ensuring that the primary focus and result of the use of AI in society is the betterment of our societies and our individual lives. We are all in a position to incentivize and encourage the use of effective and ethical AI and disincentivize the use of ineffective and unethical AI. How? Well, let's take a look at the various roles we play in society and some of the questions we can consider in those roles. Video available here: AI Literacy is a Civil Rights Issue
